Labradoodle Breed

Labradoodles receive their heritage from the Labrador Retriever and the Poodle. The story began in 1988 when the manager of Guide Dogs was in Hawaii on holiday and met ‘P’. She told him of her dream to have a Guide Dog, but this remained unfulfilled because of her husband’s allergy to dog hair. Both Hawaii and Australia have extremely stringent Canine import laws but are reciprocal to one another. She had heard that Standard Poodles had been trained for Guide Dog work in Australia and asked if there was any chance that this could be tried again.

Thus began the quest to find more allergy friendly dogs with the potential to be trained for Guide Dog work. After a long search for a suitable Standard Poodle, a very intelligent and well trained “Harley,” the Standard Poodle, was mated with “Brandy,” the female Labrador Retriever who possessed proven ability to produce puppies inclined to succeed in Guide Dog training.

American Labradoodle

My mother and I have bred and raised Golden Retrievers most of our lives but had never had a lab. Labs have great attributes, but they also are reputed to have the “Marley and Me” slow to mature and hard to train personality which is not ideal. This began my mother’s quest to find the “perfect” lab to start our American labradoodle line. She explored the hunting lines (too high strung and active), service lines and show lines. The winner was a beautiful show and obedience trained lab that had not only the looks, but health and temperament that matched our program. Origin was Kennels of Avalon. She was paired with an exquisite uber intelligent Standard poodle named “Idaho Gem” This was the start of our foundation line of the Labradoodle for Abracadoodles, established in 2001. Within a few years of acquiring other superb Labs and Poodles applying her knowledge of genetics the incomparable.” Gandolf,” a black and tan phantom standard labradoodle.

“Gandolf “became the premiere foundation study and has produced many family dogs, obedience stars, agility competitors therapy dogs and PTSD companion support dogs. Gandolf is the father of Waverly, my brother Isaias’s fulltime service dog that assists him in his wheels chair plus he is also the father to “Levi Blue Diamonds”, Denim & Diamond Doodles “main man” here in California.

Australian Labradoodle Bloodline

My mother fell in love with The Australian Labradoodle named “Reagan.” This led to the inspiration to add the Australian Labradoodle into Abracadoodles bloodlines. Many years ago, my mother mentored a lady in her breeding program which led to a lifetime friendship. Her friend went from Goldendoodles to breeding Australian Labradoodles. Due to their mutual respect and desire to continue building great dogs she shared her favorite bloodlines with my mother. Genetics has always been fun and exciting to watch in action. The time and care that went into the creation of this breed deserves more credit than most know. Not only are we adding a great temperament but we were able to expand on the color options and better consistency in coat types. .

the Australian Labradoodle has low and non-shedding coats, but more and more people were overcome by the wonderful disposition and kindness the Labradoodle possessed. These dogs were becoming so versatile. Their intelligence and tenacity started to attract people and trainers wanting special dogs for sports and assistance/therapy dogs.

Our mini–Australian Labradoodle bloodlines go directly back to the very original renowned breeders in Australia, Rutland Manor and Teagan Park. Our introduction foundation males are Percival of Pinelodge Rivermist” and “Radagast the Brown.” Since 2014 they have contributed their attributed to generations of Abracadoodles and Denim and Diamond doodles.
